Who Were the People Columbus Found? Part One

The people who inhabited the island that Christopher Columbus found and claimed for Spain were called Arawak/Taino and they were completely wiped (some disagree click here to read more) out as a consequence of the European invasion. It is probably the only successful genocide ever accomplished. The story is horrible, shocking and beyond tragic.  But before I get into their demise let’s look at what they were like.

The Kennewick Man

For decades, archaeologists have been studying the remains of ancient Americans. In 1996, two college students found some human bones near  Kennewick, Wa. They took the bones to a coroner, and it was discovered that the bones were over 9,000 years old. They named the skeleton  the Kennewick Man, in honor of the town he was found near.
